7. Open the Dream Gate #1 Contender One Night Tournament Finals: Jimmy Susumu (14:33 Jumbo no Kachi!gatame) Big R Shimizu

Each of the tournament participants briefly spoke after the lottery drawing. Arai said that by winning, he would ensure himself a spot on the February Korakuen Hall show. Perhaps he would even get to come on the next tour of the local circuit, as the ring truck needs a new driver. Susumu wished everyone a happy new year. He said that he would quietly and unassumingly seize the chance that was up for grabs today. He would use it to open the door to a new dream in the new year. Shimizu promised victory both tonight and in the ensuing Dream Gate match in February. Fujii said he holds no regard for Shimizu as an opponent or a power fighter. He boldly told “Susumu Yokosuka” to make it to the finals so Fujii can beat his ass.

Backstage after his loss to Shimizu, Fujii was dumbfounded. Mondai Ryu said that both himself and PT have also felt the Shot-put Slam. Fujii said that move should be avoided at all costs. They all agreed that next time the results won’t be the same.

Araken was disappointed. He admitted he is not much more than an indy wrestler these days. The lariat that beat him certainly wasn’t indy class. He said when Yoshino had to pull out with his illness, he didn’t even know he was inserted into the tournament until he saw it on the DG home page. He thought it was some kind of joke or prank. But as today grew closer, he began to want it more and more. He thought if he went on to win the title, he would surely get taken along on the house show tours. He talked about all the indy nonsense he went through last year. Getting cut up by Mr. Pogo, getting his ring costume set on fire. He was over that. He wanted to return to his normal routine. He said if anyone had to be pulled from a tour, that he would be waiting for the call.

MAD BLANKEY laid a serious beating on the Millenials, using the numbers game to perfection. They continued the assault after the match, prompting a save from Hayashi & Kotoka! They were wearing Millenials colours. YAMATO asked them if they dare oppose the supreme rulers of DRAGON GATE. Hayashi stood right up to CIMA. MAD BLANKEY were nothing but total cowards. Ever since the bothersome old timers joined up with them, they have become a group of scared bullies. He said he was totally brainwashed when he chose to stand by CIMA & Gamma last year, and now he was going to fight against them. CIMA was speechless, totally baffled by Hayashis’ prowess on the microphone. He resorted to insults, calling him a 20 year old punk ass kid. Hayashi said that even though he was 20, those 40 year old zombies will have no effect on him. A rematch was proposed. YAMATO was more than willing to accept. He called out brand new Brave Gate champion Dr. Muscle to even the sides.

The Doctor betrayed MB in the late stages, hitting CIMA with the yellow box and a salt attack. This allowed Kotoka to pin him. He unmasked to reveal himself as Kzy! YAMATO was baffled. He asked Kzy if he had thought at all about his actions. How could he dare go against MB as they were on the brink of total domination. Kzy said his injury had healed, it was no longer Dr. Muscle time, and, he was done with MAD BLANKEY. They should consider this his mad and blankey farewell. He apologized to the Millenials for using them to take advantage of a perfect opportunity to make his statement. Of course, he wasn’t stupid enough to do this by himself. He had some new friends. DIAMOND DUST hit, bringing out Dia HEARTS! Starting today, he would be fighting as Kzy of Dia HEARTS. YAMATO continued to be baffled. If this wasn’t some kind of joke, then the traitor Kzy and DH would be destroyed. The Millenials weren’t getting off easy after this whirlwind of events. They were still on the MB radar. T-Hawk was irritated at Kzy for how the Brave Gate tournament went down, so they were also going to gun for DH now as well. Mochizuki noted that with the addition of Brave Gate champion Kzy, that all members of DH held titles. He also used Naruki Dois’ trademark “Something unimaginable will happen” line. Referee Yagi intervened. Eager to capitalize on a delicious chance such as this, he saw a very interesting match idea. For the February Korakuen, the 3 Way 6 Man Tag will return. MAD BLANKEY, the Millenials, and Dia HEARTS will face off.

Susumu said that, as usual, he doesn’t have much of a speech planned. He praised Shimizu, saying he had grown into a fearsome opponent. Nevertheless, he was the winner today. He talked about being Dream Gate champion back in 2006. He has tried on many occasions to take the belt back. He talked about winning KING OF GATE, but failing in the title match last year. Ironic that his opponent would be Hulk as he knows a few things about trying and failing many times at the Dream Gate. Hulk persevered, and he finally won it. He would do the same, and take it from Hulk. He also recalled that his first challenger in his 2006 reign was none other than Hulk. Hulk remembered it well. It was his first title match. He lost that day, but a lot has changed in the 9 years that have passed since then. Susumu would just have to accept the fact that he is not the person he faced in 2006. He wasn’t going to give up the title so easily.

Susumu closed things out. He said this was his 17th year in wrestling. He sure has gotten old. He has started to feel old too. Back when he debuted, his body could take a beating and get up to fight some more. Now, he was already sore from today’s’ match. But, with the continued support of the fans he would keep going. He apologized, saying there would be no Jimmyz Train today. However, he was putting the other members through intense practice of a new version of the popular dance. It would be ready to show off after he wins the title next month.

T-Hawk berated Yamamura & Ishida. Were they even watching the prior match? How could they come out and be so pitiful after the performance Ben-K, Hyou, & Yoshioka put on? They were 100 times better. Yamamura & Ishida are failures. Trash wrestlers who should give up. Furthermore, in 2017 Verserk will paint the Dragon Gate ring red.

Linda told Eita that their issues didn`t end with their Brave Gate match. He should watch his back in 2017, because he was still gunning for him. He reiterated his stance towards the fans. They rejected him when it was time for him to be voted into Tribe Vanguard, so he rejected them.

Kzy celebrated scoring the final fall of 2016. He admitted that both he didn`t have much success this year. He wondered how useful he was to his teammates. But he is going to change that. He`s training hard, and wants to prove what he is capable of.

The roster was called to the ring to give a closing statement to the Kobe fans.

Shun promised to soar high in 2017.

DK said there were a lot of fun matches, but also a lot of tough matches this year. 2017 would be just as exciting.

Ishida admitted that he has been getting his ass kicked recently. However, he won`t stop until he reached the top.

Kanda thanked everyone for cheering him in 2016.

Saito talked about Horiguchi and his injury that lead to the Jimmyz forfeiting the Triangle Gate. They were able to get the titles back, though. When Horiguchi returns the Jimmyz will be able to entertain at their best.

Mochizuki said he would be 47 years old next month. He still feels like he can do anything, and will fight hard next year.

K-ness will continue to do his best as he begins his 21st year in wrestling.

Kagetora vowed to be grateful every day for he gets to compete in 2017.

Susumu won the Dream, Twin, and Triangle Gate titles in 2016. It will go down as one of his most memorable years. The Jimmyz will do their best in 2017, too.

Hyou promised to stand out in 2017.

Kotoka had a really shitty year. Lost his hair for an entire year. His face was smashed. He will put it behind him as he dashes forward into 2017. Vehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Yamamura, as Ishida also said, has been getting his ass beat rather soundly recently. That would end in 2017.

Shimizu took being the final loser of 2016 in stride. He would become the biggest winner in 2017.

Fujii thanked everyone for their support.

Yoshino ended the year with a kiss from Maria. A lot happened this year, but he won`t slow down in 2017.

☆1st Defense
7. Open the Dream Gate Championship Match: YAMATO (34:38 Galleria) Naruki Doi
☆2nd Defense

YAMATO & Doi had their face to face interview after the second match. Doi was going to be a worthy challenger, and take it to the champion with everything he had. He give himself the greatest Christmas present of all. The Dream Gate title belt. YAMATO simply refused to lose in his final defense of 2016. There is a long history between the two of them. After going head to head, the final chapter would say that YAMATO was the better man.

The Jimmyz invited Horiguchi into the ring to join the championship celebration. Even though he wasn’t fighting with them, his spirit was. This makes him a part of the championship team.

CIMA was busted wide open by a Verserk box attack. He apologized afterwards. His keynote colour is usually blue, but today was is deep red. He mused that may mean he is in fact Santa Claus. Hopefully he brought happiness to all the kids watching today.

YAMATO thanked Doi for today. When the year started, together they were the greatest tag team the Twin Gate division had ever seen. Then, Doi conspired to kick him out of Verserk. He hasn’t quite forgiven him for his actions. But he owes a lot of his growth as a competitor to their time as a tag team. It is also because of that twist of fate that he stands here today as Dream Gate champion. Sometimes the best way for wrestlers to understand their rivals is to fight them. While he hasn’t forgiven him, after today he is willing to let it be in the past. The longest reigning Twin Gate champions of all time should end 2016 with a hand shake. Shake hands. Hand shake. Shake hands.
Doi refused. He stumbled down the ramp to the entrance gate, where he was assisted by two mysterious, shrouded figures.

YAMATO was baffled and continued to request handshakes. Eventually he refocused and gave his closing speech. He was going to continue to carry both the title and the company into 2017 and beyond. He only had one thing left to say. In 2016 wasn’t he…no, wasn’t Dragon Gate just the coolest?

After picking up the win in the opener, Shimizu said the man who would take over the leading role in Dragon Gate in 2016 was Big! R! Shimizu!. Mochizuki noted that 2016 only had 11 days left. Shimizu revised his statement to the man who would take over the leading role in Dragon Gate in 2017 would would be Big! R! Shimizu!

Kong ran down Kotoka for generally being pathetic. Did he really think he was going to get payback on Verserk? What a joke. There were more important topics at hand. Word is, Horiguchi had his ribs broken by that meathead Ben-K, and would have to miss the rest of the year. What would that mean for the upcoming Triangle Gate title match in Fukuoka? He called out the Jimmyz and demanded answers. One of their team was in a hospital bed. Were they planning on entering the title match with just two members? Obviously not, so they should vacate the titles. Saito wasn’t pleased with the turn of events, but admitted that vacating the titles was their only option. Kong was pleased, since this clearly meant the title match would change from a 3 way to a regular match between Verserk and the Yoshino team. Saito said not so fast. Horiguchi was out, but when one Jimmyz goes down, another will always cover for them. Susumu volunteered to wrestle twice. This was agreed to by all sides, and the match was officially changed to a match to decide the 57th champion team.

Saito said that it wasn’t divine intervention, but the spirit of Horiguchi that carried the Jimmyz to victory in the fourth match. He had some words for Ben-K. He is the one that injured Horiguchi. His bear hug broke three of his ribs. That can’t go unpunished. Furthermore, they can’t let such a greenhorn walk away with the Triangle Gate title belts. Ben-K provoked the Jimmyz in return. Yoshino warned him to not focus just on the Jimmyz. There was also a Verserk team in there. As for Horiguchi, the Jimmyz now have a very real image of what Ben-K is capable of.

Doi was flabbergasted at the result of the main event. What the hell was YAMATO doing? How could he lose here? They had a title match on Sunday, and he was losing to…Susumu? He also raged at Susumu for winning. If anyone was going to pin YAMATO today it was him. Susumu was a nuisance! Whatever. Sunday would be 1 on 1. No one can get in his way. He will win and become Dragon Gates’ leading man. YAMATO said that yes indeed, it would be 1 on 1. If there was no one there to break it up, Doi would have been pinned today by the Frankensteiner of the Almighty. Expect the same result in Fukuoka. As for Susumu, he would get pay back after Doi is out of the way. Susumu said they were being petty. Yeah, the Dream Gate was important, but it wasn’t the only thing. Everything that happens is important. He was still rattled from the match, so he cut his speech short, only warning them that they will soon see what the Jimmyz stand for.

YAMATO apologized for losing in this sort of match, but asked the fans to still indulge him and let him close the show. He invited the entire roster to the ring to say a few things to the Tokyo fans.

Hyou thanked everyone for this year, and hoped to be on every Korakuen Hall show in 2017. He promised to show was he was capable of in each appearance.
Punch said his hair was growing back at a satisfactory pace and he would soon be 100% Punch Tominaga again.

Eita said not to take your eyes off him in 2017.
DK said in 2017 would once again be an exciting year.
Ishida asked the fans to support both DG and OG in 2017.
Yoshioka said that even though his team won today, he contributed very little to that win. He would work hard to pick up his own victories in 2017.
Yoshino talked about his 2016 hairstyle troubles. He hopes to have a good haircut in 2017.
Mochizuki said that there was a pretty good chance all Korakuen Hall shows would also sell out in 2017, so he encouraged fans to reserve their seats early.
Doi was really irritated at the idea of reflecting on 2016. He has a title match on Sunday but otherwise nothing but bad things happened to him. He got kicked out of Verserk! Well. One good thing happened. He got married! He would return in 2017 as Mr. Dream Gate!
Yamamura had no excuses for losing to Ben-K today. He wants to make a splash next year.
Shachi is ending the year without a unit, but he will continue to talk with a loud voice.
K-ness, like Gamma, is ending his 20th year as a wrestler. He asked the fans to support him and the Jimmyz in year 21.
Kanda said he hopes to once again have his spot hit during Doi Darts next year.
Saito talked to Horiguchi on the phone, who asked him to relay words of gratitude for this year.
Susumu had a successful year. He was Dream Gate & Twin Gate champion. He hopes to win the Triangle Gate on Sunday. He also picked up the win in the final Korakuen Hall match of 2016.
Kagetora said all he was able to accomplish this year was thanks to the fans.
Shimizu reiterated that the star of 2017 will be Big! R! Shimizu!
Maria lead a 3-2-1 Lovely! chant.
CIMA joined the wrestling business at 19, and recently turned 39. He wants to continue to create a fun and comfortable environment for fans to enjoy Dragon Gate in 2017. He hopes to see more smiling fans in the stands when they return to Tokyo on January 18.
YAMATO closed the show, despite being the loser of the main event. He promised to survive Final Gate and return to Tokyo as champion. He thanked everyone for 2016, and hoped to see them all in 2017.
